What Should Be in Your Postpartum Snacks?
Snacks are a must, especially while your body is trying to recover from having a child! This blog comes straight from my postpartum cookbook. During postpartum recovery, it’s important to choose snacks that are both nutritious and convenient. Ideal options include Greek yogurt with berries and almonds, which provides protein and healthy fats. Or apple slices with peanut butter for a satisfying mix of fiber and protein. Nuts, rice cakes, and granola bars are also great for quick energy boosts. Additionally, smoothies made with yogurt, fruit, and leafy greens can be a refreshing way to get essential vitamins and minerals. These snacks help support healing, energy levels, and overall well-being during this crucial recovery period.
It’s important to snack whenever you feel hungry, as your body is healing and may require extra energy. Snacking between meals can help maintain energy levels, especially during the demanding early weeks of caring for a newborn. If you’re breastfeeding, your body will need an extra 300-500 calories a day! Listening to your body’s hunger cues and eating nutrient-dense snacks can support recovery and overall well-being, but we want that to be quick, easy and painless!
Postpartum Snacks should consist of:
- Whole grains
- Protein
- Vegetables
- Fruits
