Benefits of Birth Doula Care
Ya’ll are going to think this is redundant and you can find these statistics EVERYWHERE…however, I think it’s important that we talk about this now. It’s always important to talk about support during birth and early parenting!
According to a study by Bailey, et. al in ‘U.S. Fertility Rates in Response to the Pandemic’
There is evidence that we are experiencing a ‘modest Covid19 baby boom.’ Hooray for the United States! What this means is that, now, more than ever–birthing people need the support of a trained and certified birth doula.
WHAT DOES A BIRTH DOULA DO?
A birth doula is a source of knowledge, available to you at any point during your pregnancy to help you understand what’s happening, what is about to happen, and what you can do to help advocate for yourself throughout the process. (ie: what are your options?)
A birth doula helps with your physical comfort in labor by suggesting position changes, using massage and touch as well as helping you relax.
A birth doula provides emotional support and reassurance, comfort and encouragement
A birth doula can be a listening ear, a hand to hold and a shoulder to lean on. A good doula helps a birthing person learn how to advocate for themselves!
WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF BIRTH DOULA CARE?
Research shows that the health benefits of birth doula care include:
10% reduction in the use of pain medication
30% reduction in the use of pitocin
