Bringing Your Baby Home: Part 2 of 3
Yesterday we talked about some tips for bringing your new baby home. Today…we are talking about you.
Let me preface all of this by saying, YOU NEED A POSTPARTUM DOULA! Whew!…..now that I got that out of the way…
Postpartum care is essential for any new mother, but it can easily be overlooked amidst the excitement of a new baby. Your body has just gone through a huge transformation, so it’s important to take care of yourself and practice self-care. Here are some tips to help you take care of yourself postpartum.
First, it’s important to get enough sleep. You may have to adjust your sleep schedule to accommodate your baby’s needs, but make sure you’re getting at least 6-8 hours of rest every night. It can be hard to get used to sleeping with a baby in the house, but try to make it a priority.
Second, make sure you’re eating healthy meals. After delivering a baby, your body needs plenty of nutritious food to help it recover. Eating a balanced diet can help you stay energized and better able to handle the demands of motherhood.
Third, (and maybe more important than the first two) don’t be afraid to ask for help. You don’t have to do everything on your own. Reach out to family and friends for support and don’t be afraid to accept any offers of help.
Fourth, take time for yourself. Finding time to do something you enjoy can be difficult with a newborn, but it’s important to take breaks and take care of yourself. Even if it’s just taking a long bath or reading a book, it’s important to take time for yourself and recharge.
Fifth, practice relaxation techniques. This could be anything from deep breathing exercises to yoga. Having a few relaxation techniques in your toolkit can help you stay calm and better able to handle the stress of motherhood.
Sixth, make sure you’re getting regular check-ups. It’s important to make sure your body is healing properly after giving birth. Your doctor can answer any questions you may have and help ensure that you’re taking care of yourself postpartum.
Finally, don’t be afraid to talk to someone. Postpartum mood disorders are a real issue and it’s important to seek help if you’re feeling overwhelmed or like you can’t cope. Talking to a therapist or counselor can help you get through this difficult time. Taking care of yourself postpartum is essential for your physical and mental health.
