Tea With Jodi Episode S1 E2

Tea with Jodi blog post
  • People in the US have lost touch with the community in many ways, the least of which is where our food is concerned.
  • Normalization of maternal mental health disorders, thyroid disorders, fatigue, extreme hair loss, and general misery in postpartum recovery
  • Birthing people are not getting what they need postpartum-certainly food-wise for recovery, but there are larger issues at play
  • We can eat plenty of calories but still be malnourished
  • Testing standards in the US vs other countries for issues postpartum (and in general)
  • What needs to change in pregnancy/postpartum in the nutrition realm?

What we can do to fix things:

  1. How does the body work, focus on birthing-person-centered how things work.
  2. We rush to recover and get back to our busy life, instead of just slowing down. Perhaps it’s time to SLOW down!
  3. If we don’t say something and do something, nothing will change for us or for future generations. It’s NOT ok that we’re miserable!!
  • What would happen if groups/communities came together to demand change in the postpartum period?
  • Need to get appropriate tools to clinical providers so that they can be more helpful for real health and recovery in the postpartum period
  • Stay tuned for the Between The Lines segment on Postpartum
