Tea With Jodi Episode S1 E2
- People in the US have lost touch with the community in many ways, the least of which is where our food is concerned.
- Normalization of maternal mental health disorders, thyroid disorders, fatigue, extreme hair loss, and general misery in postpartum recovery
- Birthing people are not getting what they need postpartum-certainly food-wise for recovery, but there are larger issues at play
- We can eat plenty of calories but still be malnourished
- Testing standards in the US vs other countries for issues postpartum (and in general)
- What needs to change in pregnancy/postpartum in the nutrition realm?
What we can do to fix things:
- How does the body work, focus on birthing-person-centered how things work.
- We rush to recover and get back to our busy life, instead of just slowing down. Perhaps it’s time to SLOW down!
- If we don’t say something and do something, nothing will change for us or for future generations. It’s NOT ok that we’re miserable!!
- What would happen if groups/communities came together to demand change in the postpartum period?
- Need to get appropriate tools to clinical providers so that they can be more helpful for real health and recovery in the postpartum period
- Stay tuned for the Between The Lines segment on Postpartum
